Universal Design for Learning (UDL) requires a different type of lesson planning. Study of the application of UDL planning in pre-service teaching programs has been limited. Thus far, studies have only focused on lesson planning. To date no studies have analyzed the implementation of the UDL framework as compared to the use of a traditional instructional planning in lesson design, instruction, and reflection. The purpose of this study was to compare the implementation of traditional and UDL methods by student teachers (N= 290) in their lesson design, implementation, and reflections of practice. Successes, challenges, and implications for future research will be shared.
