Beyond access: Supporting teachers to leverage UDL to encourage rich disciplinary thinking among diverse learners

This session shares findings from a study that explored how to support teachers to apply UDL in ways that promote disciplinary thinking in English-Language Arts (ELA) among diverse learners. I collaborated with three teachers to support them to leverage UDL to engage their students in discipline-specific practices and habits of mind. The session offers a snapshot of my work co-designing a fourth-grade writing project with one of the teachers. Participants will examine examples of student work and teacher learning. We will explore the richness of thinking that emerged among all students and the features that supported teacher reflection and growth.
