The inclusion of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, 2015) has placed new attention on designing learning environments that meet the needs of all learners. Given that UDL is situated in educational design, Design-Based Research(DBR), a promising methodology that focuses on design procedures, can advance UDL research. Researchers and educators communicate equally sharing the common academic objective for UDL research with DBR methodology. This study investigated 6 UDL research that used DBR as a methodology. This study identified how primary research components are similar across the UDL studies that use DBR methodology and how the research has aligned with the UDL framework and the features of DBR. Researchers suggested implications for future UDL research based on the findings.
