Educators earn credentials at the beginning of their careers, but the new skills they learn and demonstrate in their classrooms every day often go unrecognized. While educators typically receive recognition for the hours they spend in traditional professional development, they often don’t have the opportunity to demonstrate the full breadth of what they have learned, including in informal contexts.

To address this challenge, Digital Promise has built a coalition of educators and partners to establish a micro-credential system that recognizes educators for the skills they master throughout their careers.

Micro-credentials enable educators to identify concrete skills or competencies they want to focus on or develop in response to the needs of their students or classrooms. As a result, the educator drives their own learning goals and demonstrates that learning through micro-credentials. This talk will highlight how competency-based, personalized professional learning through micro-credentials is an authentic recognition of what educators are putting into practice, how they are demonstrating that, and why it is important.
